BLOG POST | DECEMBER TBR
It’s not very often that I do one of these posts, but I thought there’s a first time for everything. Today’s post is about my December TBR. I know that we are coming up to that period where Father Christmas miraculously nips down the chimney and leaves a load of prezzies and we all eat our way though a small supermarket amount of food, but there are a decent amount of books coming on that snowy (well, if you are in the UK rainy and windy, but we can all dream can’t we?).
Okay, let’s crack on then and have a look at the books I have planned to read this month.
God Ascended - Jeff Speight
House of Muir -Luke Tarzian
ONCE MARKED, ALWAYS MARKED…
The war that was won, is lost. His country razed and friends dead, Cailean Catil seeks the miserable solace of inebriation. But fate has other plans for ill-lucked men.
An ocean away, he returns to the Galrun Muir, the order from which he was previously exiled. Seeking answers as to why they now worship the monster haunting his dreams, Cailean embarks on a quest to confront the ghost of Gabriel Muir and seal his tomb. Should he succeed, all will be made clear.
But some truths are better left dead.
THE GUILT WILL ALWAYS CALL YOU BACK…
Fiel has lost everything. Her niece is dead at the hands of Te Mirkvahíl and her country has been razed by the demon’s legions. But fate has other plans for ill-lucked women.
An ocean away, in the city Harbanan, Fiel resumes her search for Vare Tal-úlm. Her journey leads her to the monster-hunting Galrun Muir who claim not only to have knowledge of Vare, but of Fiel’s previous visit to their hallowed grounds.
Lady Mirkvahíl, they say, has returned.
THE DEAD RISE…
Behtréal has won. Helveden is a ruin, the Ariathan Empire is dead, and The Keepers’ Wrath is his to wield. With it, in the dead city Banerowos, he can rewrite history and reclaim lives lost—he can bring his people back.
But things are not so simple as that, for within the dead city Behtréal must contend with the guilt of memory and all its ghosts.
MADNESS IN TRUTH…
The doors have opened.
Welcome in.
Asterius - Susana Imaginário
My Name is Asterius, yet I have never seen the stars.
You all know me as the Minotaur.
This is my story.
The Minotaur himself relates to a mysterious listener the events that led to his death in the Labyrinth as he reflects upon the meaning of good versus evil, right versus wrong and monsters versus heroes.
Secret Book - Popular Author
Can’t tell you much about this one. It’s a secret, but let me tell you it looks damned good
Where The Dead Brides Gather - Nuzo Onoh
A powerful Nigeria-set tale of possession, malevolent ghosts, family tensions, secrets and murder from the recipient of the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement and 'Queen of African Horror'.
Bata, an eleven-year-old girl tormented by nightmares, wakes up one night to find herself standing sentinel before her cousin's door. Her skin, hair, and eyes have turned a dazzling white colour, which even the medicine-man can't heal. Her cousin is to get married the next morning, but only if she can escape the murderous attack of a ghost-bride, who used to be engaged to her groom.
Through the night, Bata battles the vengeful ghost and finally vanquishes it before collapsing. On awakening, she has no recollection of the events. And when the medicine-man tries to exorcise the entities clinging to her body as a result of her supernatural possession, Bata dies on the exorcism mat. There begins her journey. She is taken into Ibaja-La, the realm of dead brides, by Mmuọ-Ka-Mmuọ, the ghost-collector of the spirit realm. There she meets the ghosts of brides from every culture who died tragically before their weddings; both the kind and the malevolent. Bata is given secret powers to fight the evil ghost-brides before being sent back to the human realm, where she must learn to harness her new abilities as she strives to protect those whom she loves.
Page’s Pyre - Jordan Loyal Short
How do you steal a book that doesn’t exist?
When Izola travels to Jarlsbeck bearing news of her ex-husband’s death, she discovers that her daughter, Page, has made dangerous friends. Obsessed with finding a mythical book whose origins are clouded in mystery, Page is embroiled in a magical heist. To steal the book out from under the noses of a secret society of librarians, she’ll have to assemble a team of a sarcastic dwarven historian, a devious summoner, and of course… a book witch—her mother.
But working together will test the team’s loyalties. Page was always a daddy’s girl, and her rebellious spirit has pushed her away from Izola. Worst of all, Page is keeping a secret that just might get the whole team killed.
On the eve of Reinveldt’s post-war election, the world’s fate teeters on the brink, and the sinister Thule Society puts forth a candidate. Nothing is beneath the Thule in their quest to control the fabled book: intimidation, blackmail, assassination.
Can mother and daughter make peace in time to save a nation from itself? And can the team hold it together long enough to steal the legendary book, or will old scars and secret agendas tear them apart?

There you go then - that’s what I have planned for this month. I am sure that there will be other stuff as well coz I will have some audiobooks on the go as well, but at the moment I am not quite sure what they will be, although the second part of Janny Wurts’ Wars of Light and Shadow will probably be listened to as well as some Mike Shackle Stories that I need to catch up on.
